Antibiotic policy In view of the increasing problems of antibiotic resistance and the cost of inappropriate prescribing, this policy provides simple, appropriate and cost-effective guidelines for the use of antibiotics in the treatment of infections commonly encountered in general practice.
Bullying and Harrassment policy NHS Oldham is committed to the promotion of equal opportunities and to preventing discrimination in all aspects of its employment practices and services. Every member of staff is entitled to be treated fairly and with respect and to work in an environment free from bullying and harassment. The Primary Care Trust recognises that it has a legal responsibility to ensure that no employee is subjected to such treatment at work.

Dealing with Employees Concerns Regarding Patient Care, Fraud and Maladministration All employees have not only a right but also a duty to raise any matter of concern they may have about unacceptable conduct within the PCT. This can be referred to as “Whistleblowing”.
Decontamination of Reusable Medical Devices This policy is recommended by the Health & Social Care Act (2008). It outlines duties and responsibilities for carrying out decontamination.
Developing a Patient Group Direction To aid development of an approved Patient Group Direction.
Diary Policy The aim of the diary policy is to support good record keeping. It must be followed by all staff who work for, or on behalf of NHS Oldham, including those on temporary or honorary contracts. The diaries referred to relate to those staff who are required to use diaries in the planning and recording of work undertaken on a daily basis on behalf of the organisation.
Disciplinary procedure Oldham Primary Care Trust (PCT) seeks to promote good employee relationships and practice, and this procedure recognises that for those few employees where there is cause for concern, management has a duty to take action. In carrying out that duty the aim must be to guide and help the employee to achieve improvement. While there are sanctions in the procedure, the objective is to effect improvement and ensure there is no repetition of the offence.

Hand Decontamination The policy has been updated to include a policy aim, information regarding hand hygiene in the patient’s home, use of gloves and diagram of areas missed when hand washing.
Handling, Safe Storage and Disposal of Vaccines This policy intended to give guidance to all staff in NHS Oldham on the storage, handling, distribution and disposal of vaccines.

Infection Prevention and Control Inter Health Care Patient Transfer Guidance The aim of this guidance is to help control and prevent the spread of Health Care Associated Infection (HCAI) when patients are transferred from one healthcare setting to another.
Infection Prevention and Control Guidance for Care of the Deceased Person in the Community Setting This document provides guidance on the management of handling deceased persons and should be known by all staff providing clinical care. It relates specifically to care of the deceased patient in terms of reducing infection hazards while undertaking this care.
Isolation of Patients This is a new policy as recommended by the Health & Social Care Act (2008). The Policy outlines isolation/barrier nursing considerations and application of precautions.
Incident and Serious Incident Reporting Policy To define the process and responsibilities for the reporting and management of incidents.

Information Governance Mobile Working Policy To promote best practice with regards information handling outside the boundaries of the Trust premises (including working at home). The policy is aimed at enabling and supporting employees who intend to use and transfer manual and electronic person identifiable records between home, the work place and the community.
Joint Infectious Disease Outbreak Plan This policy is intended to give guidance an up-to-date joint plan covering the structures and procedures necessary for managing infectious disease.
Long service awards NHS Oldham recognises long service by presenting staff with service medals, awards and financial support for retirement parties
NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) Gateway Policy The NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) defines and describes the broad competence which NHS staff are required to have in their work in order to ‘deliver the service’. It provides a single, consistent, comprehensive and explicit framework on which to base development review for all staff.
Policy for the Management of Clostridium difficile in the Community This policy provides guidance on the treatment and management of Clostridium difficile and the precautions to take to prevent the spread of infection.
Policy for the Management of Medicines in the Community (adults and children) Policy to ensure the safe and secure handling of medicines wherever they are used in the community. Policy covers all NHS Oldham staff involved in the management of medicines.

NHS Continuing Healthcare Choice and Equity Policy NHS Oldham has developed this policy to support a consistent process that provides a framework in which NHS Oldham can provide a transparent, fair and equitable process for approving and determining cost to meet an individual patients need.
Non Medical Prescribing Policy This policy provides directions for qualified Nurse and Pharmacist Independent Prescribers (Non-Medical Prescribers) who are required within their role to prescribe any Licenced medication for any medical condition within their competency, including some controlled drugs (in the case of nurses only).
Outbreak Management Policy in an Inpatient Unit This is a new policy recommended by the Health and Social Care Act (2008). The policy outlines what actions to take during a suspected or confirmed outbreak in an inpatient unit.
