HEALTHY PEOPLE   HEALTHY LIVES   HEALTHY COMMUNITIES

Our vision and commissioning priorities

Our vision reflects both our work and the wider role we play in making Oldham a place where everyone is proud to belong.

It is to have healthy people living healthy lives in healthy communities, summed up as:

Healthy People, Healthy Lives, Healthy Communities

Our strategic ambition

This is a long-term ambition:

To continue to work with our communities to improve health and well-being so that, by 2014, people across the whole of Oldham will be living longer, healthier, more active and fulfilling lives, and taking up the opportunities on offer from world-class public services.

Key priorities

Our key priorities for the NHS to tackle locally in the coming five years are:

•    Mental health
•    Vascular disease (hearts)
•    Respiratory disease (breathing)
•    Cancer
•    Child and maternal health.

Our guiding principles

Our guiding principles again reflect both our work and the wider role we play in Oldham:

They are:

  • To always promote better health and well-being for all
  • To always promote better care for all
  • To always promote independence, protect vulnerable people and improve preventative services
  • To strive to realise and enable the potential of children and young people
  • To always ensure value for money
  • To constantly strive to reduce health inequalities
  • To always aspire to be world class in all we do, focusing on improvement, innovation and outcomes
  • To be a strong, effective and high quality leader of the local NHS
  • To reflect the needs and preferences of patients, their families and carers
  • To ensure clinicians can drive change for the benefit of local people
  • To constantly strive to develop new relationships and new ways of working to benefit local people
  • To make everyone count
