Healthy Futures

Healthy Futures is transforming where and how health services are delivered to people in Oldham, Rochdale, Heywood, Bury and north Manchester. The changes will improve and modernise health services and bring some of them closer to people’s homes.

The hospitals in these areas will become specialised care centres and leaders in their field. That means specialist doctors and technology will be available at specific sites rather than all sites, but will offer the very best treatments to patients.

All the changes being made as part of Healthy Futures are supported by doctors, nurses and other health professionals as the best way to offer modern, safe and effective services.

Public and staff engagement has always been at the heart of the Healthy Futures programme and the Healthy Futures Delivery Unit, which oversees the changes, works hard to make sure that patients, carers and NHS staff are fully informed and are involved in any important decisions.  Find out more in these related publications or on the Healthy Futures website.

Consultation

A 12 week consultation has been held on proposed changes to stroke and heart services in Oldham, Rochdale and Bury.

The changes, which are part of the Healthy Futures programme, are specifically related to planned cardiology and stroke rehabilitation. They have come about largely because of recent developments in clinical care and national policies for heart and stroke disease. Clinical experts believe that keeping certain cardiology services at Rochdale Infirmary without the support of other acute services would be a serious risk to patient safety.

There are also proposals for stroke rehabilitation services, particularly in relation to a possible new ‘step down’, stroke facility within Rochdale. This would enable Rochdale patients to continue their rehabilitation locally after the first urgent phase of medical care is over.
